SomethingLatina is dedicated to amplifying authentic Latina voices through thoughtful, engaging, and culturally grounded storytelling. We welcome submissions that reflect diverse perspectives, lived experiences, and meaningful cultural commentary.
Word Count
Submissions should generally fall within the following ranges:
Standard articles: 800–1,200 words
Short-form or opinion pieces: 600–900 words
Long-form essays or features: 1,200–1,800 words
Writers are encouraged to aim for approximately 1,000 words unless the subject requires additional depth.
Tone and Voice
We prioritize writing that is clear, compelling, and rooted in authenticity. Submissions should be:
Personal and voice-driven, with first-person perspective welcome
Conversational while maintaining a polished and professional tone
Grounded in Latina identity, culture, or lived experience
Overly academic or formal writing styles are discouraged in favor of accessible, engaging storytelling.
To ensure readability and consistency:
Use short paragraphs (generally 2–5 sentences)
Maintain clear, concise language throughout
Follow standard grammar and punctuation conventions; familiarity with Associated Press style is helpful but not required
Include a strong, relevant headline
Avoid dense blocks of text, unnecessary filler, or overly complex language.
Compensation
At this time, SomethingLatina is a community-focused platform and is unable to offer financial compensation for contributions. We deeply value the work of our writers and are committed to growing toward a model where contributors can be paid in the future.
What We Look For
We seek submissions that demonstrate:
A clear and distinct point of view
Specificity and depth rather than general commentary
Cultural relevance and authenticity
Emotional resonance and meaningful insight
SomethingLatina is committed to creating a space where Latina voices are represented with nuance, depth, and intention. We look forward to reviewing your work. Send your pitches and inquiries to somethinglatina@todowafi.com
