If you are not yet familiar with the incredible female artist and charismatic lead singer of the Grammy-winning Colombian group ChoQuitown, you’re in for a treat. Meet your new favorite artist, Goyo, who made a sensational appearance on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon — a genuinely historic moment!

Goyo, whose full name is Gloria Martinez, has been a passionate force in music since she joined ChoQuitown in 2000 alongside her brother, Miguel “Slow” Martinez and ex-husband Carlos “Tostao” Valencia. Her solo journey began in 2022, adding new layers to her artistry. Hailing from the vibrant region of El Choco, also known as El Pacífico, Goyo’s humble beginnings are a testament to her authenticity. This Afro-Colombian region is renowned for its rich cultural tapestry, and Goyo’s music brilliantly reflects this heritage.

Her 2010 hit, “De Donde Vengo Yo,” is a heartfelt homage to her roots and identity. Her unique sound — a dynamic fusion of hip-hop, R&B, reggaeton, and Latin pop — pays tribute to her Afro-Colombian origins while pushing musical boundaries. Recently, her collaboration with legendary Colombian singer Carlos Vives and renowned American pianist Arthur Hamlin captivated audiences on The Tonight Show, kicking off Hispanic Heritage Month with a bang! Seeing her perform was inspiring — a reminder of how she embodies pride, talent, and resilience. Her beautiful dark skin also represents Latinidad and diversity in all its forms. For many little girls and teens Goyo makes them feel seen. Her braids, or more so, natural hair styles, tell us that it’s ok and provide needed representation.

Goyo now calls Miami home, where she’s a devoted mother to her daughter and an active advocate for women’s rights and social justice. Recognizing her privilege within the industry, she remains committed to using her platform for change. Recently celebrated as a trailblazer among reggaeton and urban artists, she continues to open doors and inspire. From El Choco to the world stage — Goyo’s story is one of passion, heritage, and unstoppable spirit!
