This past Saturday, Mexican-American singer Becky G made her way to Coachella City and had the honor of receiving the key to the city, of course, after her memorable performance at the Coachella festival.

Coachella City is located in Riverside County and is close to the Coachella festival. A city predominantly made up of Hispanics/Latinos and known for its neighborly agriculture and Mexican heritage.

Mayor Steven Hernandez of Coachella was at the event and publicly shared his appreciation for the singer’s appearance, her help with Farmchella, and her work toward Latino representation. Councilmember Stephanie Virgen also spoke during the ceremony and endorsed Becky G and what her success means to other Latinas.

Becky (from the Block) has come far and continues to be a role model for younger Latinos with similar backgrounds. At the ceremony, she addressed social issues within the Latino community (in Spanglish), acknowledging one’s privilege and leaning into education and awareness.

It’s clear that Becky G, a third-generation Mexican and second-generation American, is proud of her cultural heritage and wants to contribute towards improving the Latino community; by speaking out and motivating all young Latinos to follow their dreams and connect with their community.
